We journey with God, to serve with love

First Motherhood-the new journey

October 20, 2021

Psalm 127:3

“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.”

New American Standard Bible

I’m sure all of you guessed that this would be about motherhood or my son when you saw that today’s blog post was from me huh?  Well, you guessed right, friends!

As many of you know, I recently became a mother! So naturally, this Bible Verse is one that stood out to me. Caleb is such a blessing in our lives and one I didn’t quite expect due to fertility issues. I won’t bore you with all the details of my journey to motherhood but I’m sure you can imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw that little blue line!

This Bible Verse is on point.  Caleb is such a gift to Trent and I. The way that he looks up at us and breaks out into an open mouthed smile when we talk to him, how he follows us with his eyes whenever we walk around the room is so amazing. Even when he’s screaming at the top of his lungs in protest to being burped mid feeding and trying to claw at my face. My love for this baby boy is far greater than I ever imagined it could ever be. (I’ll be honest I’m tearing up a little as I type this) Caleb himself is definitely a gift..It’s so crazy to believe that it comes so naturally too.  The moment they placed Caleb in my arms--besides my first thought, which was “Wow! He’s so warm and squishy!”--I felt this almost overwhelming sense of love and joy. I knew that I would love and protect this little human for the rest of my life and most definitely after that too.

Now, as I look back at that moment and think about all the other moments that have transpired with Caleb over the past 10 weeks of his life, I think about God’s love for us. This love I have for Caleb is so intense and so overwhelming sometimes--I’m sure all you other mothers can relate--and it’s modeled after God’s love for us.  For all of us. My love for Caleb is nothing compared to the love that God has for him, for me and for all of you. It’s almost unfathomable and that is the greatest gift of all.
