We journey with God, to serve with love

Interesting Times

March 24, 2020

“May you live in interesting times.”  An old English expression

Life seems better during uninteresting times, times of peace and tranquility when the road ahead is smooth, flat, and well lit. We are now faced with much angst and uncertainty. These are the times when we need God most. When we trust in ourselves, our wisdom, our technology, we crowd God out of our lives. Spending time in prayer demonstrates our trust in God. When our faith grows and strengthens, our hope also grows. This hope wells up inside of us until it overflows and we share it with other people.

In these uncertain times, times of stress and separation, take time for small things and interactions with other people you don’t usually have time for otherwise. Make cookies and share them with a neighbor who is alone.  Facetime or Skype with your kids and family.  Isolation can be very depressing so reach out and share a kind word or deed.

May I share a prayer with you? During these uncertain and anxious times:

Have no fear what tomorrow may bring. The same loving God who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day. God will either shield you from suffering or give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations about tomorrow. Amen.

A verse for you to think about: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

p.s. Thanks to those who are mailing in their weekly contributions!  These donations are critically important in these weeks when we are not physically meeting together.  The financial needs of the church continue so your donations help to keep the bills paid.
