My mother went on a trip to Turkey, Greece and Rome with Dr Paul Maier while he filmed the study series, Odyssey of St Paul. Some of you may remember that BLC small groups used this video a few years ago. It was a very interesting visit because of Dr Maier’s wonderful knowledge of both the secular and spiritual history of the area. Especially in Turkey, Dr Maier had to be careful while he filmed his script as they were in a non-Christian country. One day the entire group, which was large enough to fill two tour buses, found themselves in a cave. While they were looking around, the group sang the Doxology. Luckily they were alone because they may have been told to leave if someone objected. My mother said that the sound of the many voices singing was one of the most powerful events on the tour.
I love singing the Doxology and look at it as a way of thanking God for all that he has done for my family and me. During this time of uncertainty, we do have a lot to be thankful for. We have our health, we have the internet and phones to keep in touch, and we have our church family. I look forward to singing this when I walk back into the Bethlehem sanctuary.
Take care
