A Blessing of Masks

June 6, 2020

Many weeks ago I felt it was my responsibility as chair for the membership committee to put out a request for extra masks.  I wanted to make certain that when we joined together in person again if anyone forgot their mask at home or if there was a visitor who came without one that masks were available.  I am a firm believer in Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you….” so I sent out a request to some members of Bethlehem.  This has been shown time and time again to be successful.  But little did I know that I would be living a story similar to Matthew 14 of the miracle of the loaves and fishes.  One member had said she could make a couple and I was very grateful.  What a surprise I received recently when as you can see in the photo that I did not receive 2 masks but 18 of various sizes and colors!!  There are some a small size to fit children, some medium size to fit  many adults, and some large to fit those with a fuller grin.  WHAT A BLESSING!!  All of them are reversible and the hook over the ears is adjustable in size.  And did you notice that large “fish” on each of them?  It may just be a paisley shape but it makes me think of Jonah and the whale.  These were not actually made by our member, but by her daughter.  This shows me that our member definitely reared a wonderful daughter who is full of talent and generosity.  That member was a blessing to her daughter and she in turn  has become a blessing to all of  us.  So don’t fear if you leave your mask in another jacket pocket or behind in the laundry room.  Your church will be able to help you out in your time of need.  Even if your child is under10 years of age (and is not required to wear a mask) if he or she wants to wear one there should be one.
