Message from our Pastors
Worship is the heart and soul of our time together as a family.
But what exactly is worship?
Worship is permeated with expressions of praise to God, God is extolled for his mighty acts of the past and for his continuing love and care for us.
Worship is profoundly spiritual in that it not only conveys the mood but it imparts the whole counsel of God, the truths that we find in scripture.
Worship reflects our desire for ordered worship, it is the work of the people.
Worship is cross generational as the generations speak to each other.
Worship is creative in that it constantly seeks to explore new means of expression that will empower us spiritually.
Worship begins with the confession. We begin by clearing our minds of the activity of the week. we clear our minds of anything that would distract us from our worship, and we open our selves to spend time with God.
Then we call God into our presence through the Kyrie. And we ask God to be present with us. So once we have called out to God, we sound forth with the hymn of praise, praising God for his continued love, peace and hope. Next we listen to the scriptures, we listen for what God has done, we listen for what he is saying to us, and we listen for what he wants us to do in our lives. The sermon helps us to reflect on the word of God.
Following our listening we are given opportunities to respond with our offering, with affirming one another, with participating in the great thanksgiving. We offer our selves, our time, and our possession to the work of Jesus Christ. And Christ has made an offering to us too. And so Jesus' offering of bread and wine are brought forward with the offering plates...and then we all stand in respect and honor of the gifts brought to the table of the Lord. As we participate in the great thanksgiving we do so because of everything has occurred in the worship up to this point. We participate because our Lord has commanded us to, and we participate as a way of saying "Thank you Jesus" for all that he has done for us. In our participation we are strengthened to go forth and tell others of the Love of Jesus and so we are sent forth by God's blessing to go into our day to day world and be Jesus to others.
Worship is a beautiful coming together of the faith family. We invite you to come, wear a name tag. praise God, and let the spirit of God flow through you. We'll see you on Sunday, and the next Sunday...
With Joy in Being Your Pastors,
Jim and Jean Vargo
